More and more articles are reporting on the decline of "classic" teambuildings; deemed a waste of money and time, teambuildings are strongly criticized.
In this article, we'll take a close look at the limitations of classic teambuildings and explore the alternatives that are emerging.
The aim of cohesion activities is to create a bond between participants; a dedicated moment that some see as an "injunction to have fun".
They would feel obliged to "become buddies" with their colleagues, even though this would blur the private/public distinction.
For these people, teambuilding becomes just another "to-do" on the list, rather than a serene, positive moment.
Our advice? Don't force anyone to participate, and provide a place where those who need it can take a social break. This will allow everyone to set limits when they want to.
Teambuildings can be perceived as pointless rituals, disconnected from everyday reality.
These activities offer a quick but ineffective response to a deep-seated problem. ❌
Here the symptoms are dealt with, but not the root of the problem, which reappears the very next day.
Our solution? Ask yourself the right questions before investing in team building;
🌱 What is the real need behind organizing this team moment?
🗓 Is this the right time of year to organize it (workload, vacations, strategic calendar)?
🎯 What will my team get out of this activity (apart from fun)?
In short, does it really make sense?
All these questions show that at a time when climate disruption is becoming an emergency, these ephemeral activities seem out of touch with the concerns of today's world. 🌍
Classic teambuildings like bowling or go-karts are an aberration today, given theCSR commitments that organizations are making.
They don't create real cohesion, nor do they add meaning to employees' work.
Our vision? One answer can be found in the activities we engage in, which foster team cohesion anchored in shared values.
Engaged teambuildings are emerging as the new norm, offering an alternative more in tune with today's workforce aspirations.
By getting involved, companies can both meet their teams' expectations and contribute to collective well-being.
If the commitment is kept over time, it will form a common basis for the team, enabling everyone to find their place.
Our specialty? At Surveco, we've decided to create a course that will make this commitment last over time and involve your teams in the change, little by little. (While being fun... But not necessarily 😉 )
Psssst the Surveco team is part of the generation that criticizes this concept. Meet us to analyze your situation together.
Ready to take part in your next fun and committed teambuilding event?
Or not sure where to start?
Let's get together!
Did you know that websites consume a lot of energy? Today, with OLED screens going mainstream, pixels get individually lit up on your screen. That's why darker colours and less complex images allow part of your screen to go dark. Are we saving the planet by putting our background in dark green? No. Are we taking a tiny step in the right direction, with what's at our disposal while keeping our website fun with some photos and pops of colour? Yes! And that's what Surveco is all about :)
So yes, our background is dark, but yes, we also have fun animations & photos to show you what we're all about.
Added bonus: reading white text on a dark background is better for your eyes! You may for instance already notice how this popup is tiring them ;)
